The aim of this programme is to provide learners with foundational skills and knowledge in plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying (PGD), enabling them to progress into a Level 4 apprenticeship programme within the trade. This programme will equip learners to assist with the installation of basic sanitary plumbing, gasfitting, and drainlaying systems and components under supervision. The programme also aims to foster an awareness of the core requirements of working within a regulated environment and to develop graduates' ability to apply good conduct, ethical behaviour, and legal responsibilities in real-world workplace settings.

  • Hold NCEA Level 1 in Maths, English, or equivalent, or have completed the Vocational Pathway in Construction and Infrastructure (Level 2) or equivalent.

  • Meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment

  • Have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.

  • Must be physically able to complete the practical aspects of the programme by being able to work effectively, efficiently and safely in a simulated work environment which may involve working safely at heights and in confined spaces.

MĀORI AND PASIFIKA TRADES TRAINING (MPTT)
If you’re Māori or Pasifika and aged 16-40, you might be able to get a scholarship to pay your course fees. This course is also part of the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) programme. You’ll also get one-on-one career coaching, help finding work, and other learner support. You can apply for the MPTT scholarship once you’ve enrolled in your course. Ask NZMA to help apply.
