After completing the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC), Alicia Berkley is now excelling in her Level 3 studies.

“I had just completed a course for young mothers, and decided that I wanted to enrol in a qualification so I could gain a new skill and passion,” she shared.

Initially nervous about studying, Alicia experienced feelings of self-doubt in the beginning.

“I left school when I fell pregnant at 17, so never completed my high school years. When I began my studies with NZTC, I battled with thoughts of failure and anxiety, and was concerned I would feel overwhelmed with assignment deadlines. However, I was fully supported by my lecturers who gave me the confidence and tools needed to succeed.

“Even though I am busy juggling an education while raising young children, I have found my studies to be very manageable. If I am ever feeling worried, I know all I need to do is reach out and ask for help, as the NZTC team is there with you every step of the way. My studies have truly empowered me and given me confidence.”

For those who may be doubting their capabilities or are new to study, Alicia has some encouraging advice.

“I understand that it may feel daunting to try something new, but don’t be afraid to ask for help. Give everything a go and try your best – you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you can accomplish in a supportive environment.

“I’m so proud of what I have achieved; in the past I never would have thought it possible. I even have my sights set on completing the Level 4 next!”
