This qualification is designed for learners who want to acquire extensive practical skills in concept development, mobile app development, web app development, game dev, user experience, 3D modelling and project management. This 3 year programme allows learners to specialise from Year 2 onwards in either Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Game Dev, or Artificial Intelligence, and is structured heavily around project work, including work experience opportunities with internationally recognised companies. This programme provides learners with all the skills to seek employment in the field of software engineering.

A computer science degree with a difference
Traditional computer science degrees focus on software engineering, programming and mathematics. But Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Game Development and Web and App Development are some of the biggest industries worldwide today, which is why these are the focus of our degree.
We offer a transdisciplinary programme bringing computer science, programming, art and design, social science and business knowledge together with project work so our students have the knowledge and skills to make a difference in a real-world team.

This programme is heavily focused on project-based learning so you graduate with real-world skills. Over 50% of course time is dedicated to tutor-led programming, with an additional 15% orientated around group projects.
Commercially-relevant projects are developed in a studio-like environment and, with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, you'll finish your degree ready to carve your own path in a computational job within the creative, business or science sector.
Guaranteed work experience with international tech companies
We offer work experience for 8-10 weeks with well-known and well respected international organisations. We are the only institution in New Zealand offering these internships and externships, and they could see you working with powerhouses like Facebook and Hewlett Packard. Find out more

Domestic Students
We recognise that this year has been tough for students, especially if you’re moving on from High School. Because of this we are offering Discretionary Admission to students who have missed out on credits, so you don’t need to have University Entrance or NCEA Level 3 to be accepted into this programme. You will need to show you have your literacy and numeracy credits at Level 1, and at least your Level 2 NCEA certificate. A support letter from your school is also beneficial but not essential. Usually you would need to meet the following criteria:
General Admission
NCEA University Entrance (UE), or equivalent CIE/IB grades, or equivalent qualification from an overseas secondary school or tertiary institution.
Discretionary Admission
Applicants who do not meet General Admission requirements and are at least 16 (and under 20) may apply for Discretionary Admission by demonstrating significant level of achievement in Year 12, or completion of a relevant foundation programme or tertiary qualification.
Special Admission
If applicants do not meet General Admission requirements and are over 20, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, and have relevant experience and skills, they may apply for Special Admission by submitting a professional portfolio and/or documented industry experience.
International Students
International students need to be at least 18 years old. If an applicant's first language is not English, they must demonstrate English language proficiency at the level of IELTS 6.0.

$10,118.13 + $340 Student Services Levy (per year) + $350 Course Related Costs*
*Course Related Cost - Covers software licensing for student use on campus for the period of 1 year (not applicable for Year 1). This amount can be covered by Studylink's courses related cost loan.
