This qualification is designed for learners with some experience in health and wellbeing assistance who want to upskill in providing healthcare to others. These skills include providing care to people with complex needs, observing and responding to changes in health, planning and risk management in healthcare, and leadership. This practical programme enables learners to enter the workforce as an advanced healthcare support worker or progress into further study.

You’ll learn how to provide personalised care and support for people living with dementia or complex needs in healthcare facilities or in their homes. We’ll make sure you’re equipped with practical skills to prepare you for employment as an Advanced Healthcare Support Worker.

New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4)

Ākonga must:

  • Hold NCEA Level 2 or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge.

  • Have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Health Assistance or Support Work strand OR an equivalent qualification or experience in the health and wellbeing sectors.

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age.

  • Have an acceptable New Zealand Police vet prior to the beginning of practical experience.

International students additional to the above must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years or older.

  • Hold academic or general IELTS 5.5 with no band scores less than 5.0 overall or NZQA approved equivalent.

Additionally, students who are eligible to enrol in the online programme will need:

  • Be employed with a minimum of 20 hours in a registered health care provider within the healthcare sector (either paid or voluntary) and,

  • Produce a workplace attestation from their employer confirming access to facilities and resources to produce the full range of course content and,

Note: all learners will need access to a computer with prescribed basic hardware requirements as per marketing material, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection.
