To prepare akonga for employment as support workers in the health and wellbeing sector. On completion of the programme the graduates will have the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work alongside people, family and/or whanau accessing social and community services and be capable of working in a self-managing capacity under broad guidance.

In this course, you will learn about Aotearoa’s health and well-being sector, then focus on gaining the knowledge and skills to become an effective community health worker. You'll learn how to work with people from diverse backgrounds, collaborate with your colleagues, and meet the needs of people with community service needs.
Ākonga must:
Be a minimum of 17 years of age
Must hold NCEA Level 2 or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and knowledge
Have a satisfactory fit and proper person check that will include a Police vet, as required for placement in the health and wellbeing sector
International applicants must be 18 years of age or older; and have a general or academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 under Rule 18
Students who enrol in this programme will need:
Have access to a computer or laptop, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection
In addition to the above, Ākonga who are eligible to enrol in the distance (online) programme must:
Be employed with a minimum of 20 hours in a relevant role at an approved health care provider (either paid or voluntary) and,
Have access to a computer or laptop, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection
