This qualification is designed for learners who want to upskill in providing education to infants, toddlers and young children. Learners will learn all the skills required to enter the workforce as an early childhood educator, including practical skills and health and safety standards and policies.

This programme will develop your knowledge and skills as an educator, enabling you to provide and support the education and care of infants, toddlers, and young children. The programme includes a practicum in an Early Childhood Centre which is an integral part of the course.

  • Domestic students must be 18 years of age or older at the time the programme commences. International students need to be 18 years of age or older

  • Demonstrate the ability to complete the academic requirements of the programme, for example, having achieved the New Zealand Certificate in Early Education and Care (Level 4), or NCEA (Level 3), or equivalent.

  • Have an acceptable New Zealand Police Vet before entry to the programme. If the programme begins before the Vet report has been received from the New Zealand Police, students may begin the programme but may not attend any practical experience at a ECE Service Provider until an acceptable report has been received.

  • If english is not your first language, you will need to have achieved an IELTS Level 6.0 (Academic) with no sub-score less than 5.5, or equivalent.

  • International students must have travel and medical insurance and a valid visa.
