This qualification is designed for learners who already have foundational experience in the construction industry and want to gain skills as a plasterer or painter, from workplace safety policies to applying coatings and finishings. This practical workshop-based programme provides learners with the skills to become an apprentice or labourer in construction or allied trades.
Tap into the building boom! In just 19 weeks you’ll gain the skills you need to become an apprentice or labourer in construction or allied trades. If you already have a bit of experience in the construction industry, or have a Level 1 or 2 pre-trade qualification, this programme is your perfect next step. It’s fun, practical and workshop-based and is a great stepping stone to a career as a plasterer or painter.
Meet the minimum requirements of the NZMA Entry Assessment
Have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake this programme which is taught and assessed in English.
Must be physically able to complete the practical aspects of the programme by being able to work effectively, efficiently and safely in a simulated work environment which may involve working safely at heights and in confined spaces.

MĀORI AND PASIFIKA TRADES TRAINING (MPTT)
If you’re Māori or Pasifika and aged 16-40, you might be able to get a scholarship to pay your course fees. This course is also part of the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT) programme. You’ll also get one-on-one career coaching, help finding work, and other learner support. You can apply for the MPTT scholarship once you’ve enrolled in your course. Ask NZMA to help apply.
